Certified Laboratory of Material Structure Analysis "ALSA" has been created at the Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria, department Material Science and Technology (MTM) in 1997.   ALSA has been set up on the basis of the existing at that time Science Laboratory for Surface Heat Treatment, as well as on the basis of the Technology Centre for Surface Heat Treatment. The teaching staff of the Technical University - Varna, beside lecturing, has been working on developing a technology and installations for the surface heat treatment as well as for chemical heat treatment of steels. A new technology of Gas Carbonitriding with a Trade Mark "CARBONIT" has been developed as a priority there.       The first Head of the Laboratory was Prof. Dr Eugeny Vatev. At this moment the Laboratory is managed by Prof. DSc Rusi Rusev.
